This is the first time I can remember where we have multiple great big companies. Few of them feel like the slow stodgy incumbent that is about to get blindsided. Of course the real race now is who can commercialize these ideas in products that customers love. Amazon’s Echo is the first one that feels like a true surprise win — I just didn’t expect amazon would have the first great assistant in our homes and sell $1B of them. A few will get stuck researching and never commercialize their efforts. I can’t wait to see the few startups that will still surprise us.
