The burden of today is that it takes a lot of individual work to identify those select people you want to follow. Folks like you and I may have invested a lot of time tuning that on platforms like Twitter or medium but most people haven’t and probably won’t. Instead right now everyone “tunes in” to their friends on Facebook (much easier to decide if someone is or isn’t a friend than whether you want to follow them) and that gives anyone a good enough flow of information. But I think it isn’t great and doesn’t help you feel like you are seeing the most important content.

In the old days we chose 3–4 services like a local newspaper or New York Times to trust to deliver us the most important content. This is closer to what Snapchat discover is doing and Apple News is trying to do. I bet we end up more towards those models over time on top of the social platforms we have
