Right — I totally agree that the “tuning” we do is our way of creating our own sets of sources and filters to receive information from. My big worry is that with each person doing their own tuning, we miss out on what was sometimes the importance of someone with outsized voice to be thoughtful about their content and make sure it was worthy of being distributed to their audience. Instead now we have a little bit of the loudest voice gets heard and soundbite based popularity which is losing a little bit of the gravitas and value of what I miss.

All this said, I agree we are in the midst of a massive reshuffling and realignment of how content gets distributed and discovered. I am starting to think we might end up closer to a system with several strong editors with great taste vs algorithms and individualized tuning but we’ll see. I’m excited to explore and see efforts from both sides.
