On one hand, I agree that moving to a world where everyone has an open voice and is able to contribute is incredible. Your recognition of how this helped invoked #blacklivesmatters is right and meaningful. That said, we can have channels for everyone to have an open voice and bubble things up, and still have some overall curation that helps everyone. I wasn’t saying we should continue the “old modality” blindly, but we should understand the values those gave us — shared context, a small set of people seriously trying to determine what was most broadly important vs everyone looking at everything. I think there are ways to bring some of that back and it won’t just be algorithms on top of other applications.
