I stand behind it 100%. It is a key reason Snapchat got to where it got to. However as products grow their userbase and evolve to different demographics they have to evolve and get easier and appropriately onboard more users. What worked for teens and college kids who are constantly around each other and able to share Snapchat in person made it grow fast and get adopted very deeply. However older potential users don’t overlap as often in person so this kind of teaching and training for new products isn’t as easy so it didn’t spread quite as quickly. Those users tend to onboard more privately and need more help from the product itself to do so. So they need to evolve and should have much earlier. Fwiw similar issues on Twitter where the onboarding hasn’t changed or evolved to get new groups of users on. This is worthy of a longer blog post…
